From today’s episode of the Grand Tour. Brilliant. Heavy old-school Transporter vibes. Not pictured: fire-spitting drone chasing him. Bonus flying pic of James’s S600:
But they didn’t get a great angle on Hammond’s Caddilac:
Pretty good episode overall. I couldn’t believe the price tag on that Hongqi. Oh and I’m sure those license plates were a complete coincidence.

I agree. This was an extremely enjoyable episode for me. Felt so good having a proper actual cheap car challenge again, after dancing around and having “sorta cheap car challenges” for the past few seasons. Apparently a lot of people don’t like it though, even Jezza called it a “polished turd”.

I don’t know why but every time the hand came out of the trunk I laughed my ass off.

This episode was amazing if only for the fact that they managed find a - not now, Niles - Northstar that was still running .

I feel like they’ve finally hit their groove this season and I really, really love how they’re putting these together. The travel/tourism aspect is just as fascinating and detailed as the car side.

I still don’t understand what the UK considers as reliable? Their version consumer reports made the Caddy with the Northstar one of their most reliable cars? Let me restate that, they believed the Northstar was reliable...
The motor that pulls its studs out and blow the head gaskets . Which if done right you could straight blow out the radiator as seen below.
This isn’t the first time saying that cars they though were durable as we would consider them unreliable. When they talked about the the BMW M135 and VW Golf GTI and how they would be as “long lasting as Edinburgh Castle ”.
Clearly in the US we drive more miles than anyone else but come on. Do these guys hit 100K and think they are done with a car?
I get they are notorious for unreliable cars like Jaguars, Land Rovers, MGs , and anything Lucas Electrics touched but with Honda and other car manufacturers building in the UK, they clearly should have seen the light, right?
So where is then where they set the limit of reliable and unreliable?

I was surprised to hear them call the Northstar reliable in the beginning , but considering the car didn’t even make it to the end of the episode, I’m thinking they were joking about it. I don’t know much about the Royal Auto Council or whatever it’s called, but the way Hammond talked about it suggested he was being ironic.

at least for a little bit ...

Maybe, it just seemed to me he was totally set on the fact it was reliable. Especially when he talked about the overheating procedure though that could have been foreshadowing...

Great episode! But can I have the wheels from the bimmer and the Benz?
